OJEA Summer Workshop — Print Publications Advising
The Print Publications class will address the needs of both beginning advisers and advanced advisers. Writing strategies for news, feature, opinion and sports writing for both newspaper and yearbook will be featured. Story packaging for layout in both types of publications, typography, headlines and captions will be covered as well.
Besides teaching skill building for students, we will address planning and producing a newspaper or yearbook using deadlines and a student-centered publication. Advising a staff and dealing with printers and publishing companies can be tough; we will guide you through the process. Press law and ethics will also be covered.
Technical sessions will familiarize attendees with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. You will feel confident about teaching these programs to your students by the time you leave. Experienced and new advisers will both be able to take something useful away from the week.
