Digital Photography and Photoshop

This strand includes in-depth, hands-on use of DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) cameras and work with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. The focus will be to give teachers the tools they need to help students take engaging photos.

Beyond the basics of the exposure triangle and composition, the course will cover sports photography, photojournalism, and portraiture. Photos taken during this strand will be brought into Lightroom for organizing and tuning and then on to Photoshop to create several projects based on popular techniques in magazines, newspapers, and yearbooks. The course also includes training in and discussion of the effects of different types of lenses (focal lengths), equipment choices for student journalists, and conversations about best practices for workflow.

This session covers all the basics and then some.

If possible, participants should bring cameras and lenses from their schools, so they can become more familiar with them.
